frequently asked questions
What is the purpose of AirBed & Breakfast?
AirBed & Breakfast lets you stay with a local when traveling. Why? To provide an affordable alternative to hotels. So if you want to save some money, meet some new people, and see a city through the eyes of a local, then you're probably very excited to be here. We understand it's not for everyone. So if you're a room service, ice bucket, concierge type of person, stick with hotels. But once you give us a try, you may not miss that ice bucket after all!
Why use us instead of a hotel?
The listings are generally more affordable and personable. Instead of staying in a big city by yourself, you have someone to personally accommodate you, and show you around. You may even make a new friend!
Is this safe?
No. You could have a heart attack from excitement and nervousness. Otherwise, AB&B is as safe as staying with someone on Couchsurfing.com or Craigslist. We've done our part by allowing hosts & guests to create profiles with a photo, link to their Facebook and Linkedin accounts, and even review (and rate) each other. We've also added online transactions, which give you better records of your activity on the site. The rest involves using your common sense.
How do I find a room?
In three clicks, that's how. We've spent countless hours crafting a travel site that takes to the "Book it" button in just three clicks. Simply (1) search your city, (2) find a listing, and (3) book your room using Amazon payments.
How can I host?
If you have extra space in your place, you are 90% there! Why not put it to use and earn some extra money? Start by locating the host link on the top right navigation to get started. While you're not required to cook a full breakfast, you could at least consider leaving something out for your guest. Bagels, cereal, or fresh squeezed orange juice usually does the trick.
Do I need an airbed to host?
No. You decide what you are going to provide and set the price accordingly.
How much does it cost?
It's free to sign up and create a listing. The price of listings vary by city and amenities offered by the host. In the end, it's usually less than the price of a hotel room.
How is money handled?
Upon contributing a listing, hosts authorize AB&B to transfer money into their account at any time. When a guest makes a reservation, the guest is authroizing AB&B to charge the stated amount. On the day arrival, unless either party cancels, the guest will be charged and the money will be transfered directly to the host's account. A transaction fee of $5/night is charged to the guest and sent directly to AB&B. All billing is secured through Amazon so that no transaction can take place without explicit approval from you.
Are there any site rules or guidelines?
Show up! Its common courtesy, and its your money on the line. At least cancel your reservation with 48 hours notice. When hosting, make sure you are around when your traveler first arrives to the city. There is nothing more annoying than carrying luggage with nowhere to go. For travelers, if you are going to arrive late, let your host know.
Finally, beyond our Terms and Conditions, you should always:
Be honest about your profile and listings. There is no use in fudging the details. You will have to meet in-person eventually. Why make it awkward, or worse? Besides, the best way to be get a good review is to be the person you say you are.
Can I use AirBed&Breakafast outside the United States?
Not at the moment. We're working hard to bring support to international travelers. We suggest you create an account which will allow us to notify you the moment we expand to other countries.
